Several new algorithms for nonlinear controller design are based on differential-geometric concepts. Up to now, the feedback of the controller has been computed symbolically. The author proposes a method to compute the feedback using automatic differentiation. With this approach, time-consuming symbolic computation can be avoided. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2002.
