Abstract

OPNET uses a three-layer modeling mechanism. The three model layers are, from top to bottom, the network layer, node layer, and process layer. Modeling starts from these three elements. In this chapter, we design a basic OPNET sensor network model and offer the source code to readers. The model source code is analyzed. The network model, node model, result collection model, energy model, and animation model are introduced in detail. Finally, four experiments are run. This chapter gives readers a comprehensive knowledge of OPNET simulation using a basic model and, at the same time, is a reference to subsequent chapters. OPNET uses a three-layer modeling mechanism [1]. The three model layers are, from top to bottom, the network layer, node layer, and process layer. Modeling starts from these three elements. The following procedures shall be followed to build a network model. • Design the node model and different functions into different modules in the node editor, including the processor module, queue module, and transceiver module. • Design the process model, build the process through the state transition diagram in the process editor, implement the functions of each state using Proto-C language, and compile and debug the process model. • Design the network model and use the planned node model and link model to create the network topology in the project editor. • Choose the statistics, run the simulation, and check, analyze, and compare the simulation results. We will design a basic OPNET sensor network model and offer the source code to readers. The model source code is analyzed in this chapter. The network model, node model, result collection model, energy model, and animation model are introduced in detail. Finally, four experiments are run in the chapter. The purpose is to help readers get comprehensive knowledge relevant to OPNET simulation by introducing a basic model. At the same time, it will be a reference to subsequent chapters.
