Details are given of the nature and distribution of salmon (Salmo salar ) resources in England and Wales with respect to fisheries management by the regional water authorities. Commercial fishing, sport fishing and illegal fishing activities are discussed. The collection of catch data is examined, and the need for improving such records to obtain detailed information regarding the status of the salmon stocks is stressed.
