Abstract

The present study aims to investigate the local-cultural values of International Sculpture Symposium Icheon (ISSI) which is one of the cultural and art resources of the city and its suitability for an eco museum. Started in 1998, ISSI was annually hosted until 2012, for 15 years where popular sculptors have participated and left outstanding art works. However, the international event has not been systematically managed or even properly promoted. To address these problems, spreading recognition that the art works left by world-class artists who participated in the ISSI are the culture and resources of Icheon city was necessary. Also, city officials, citizens, local artists and experts should discuss improving the brand value of the city. The present study suggests diverse methods for managing cultural contents and discussed how to develop and implement a cultural contents-oriented ecomuseum. The present study is meaningful in that it contributes to the sustainable development of Ichoen city. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.
