Abstract

Commercial myoelectric prosthetic systems apply very simple signal acquisition and signal processing. Academic research has been developing powerful algorithms with promising results, but there are still no commercial systems available using these approaches. In this paper, we briefly review the state of the art of myoelectric control for prostheses in academia and industry. We argue that in order to develop more functional systems that are clinically and commercially viable, myoelectric control has to become more adaptive and robust as well as intuitive and simple to use.
