Abstract

It is argued that a non-local gravitation-like stochastic background field endowed with certain properties has the possibility of resolving many of the conceptual problems of quantum mechanics in an extremely simple and elegant manner. This proposal has a large overlap and similarity with the ideas of De Broglie, Vigier, Nelson and Penrose, though the mechanism for implementing it is totally novel. The non-linear quantum mechanics of Weinberg also has a counterpart in the present proposal. Incidentally such a background can also endow a very small mass to the photon.
