Abstract

Osteomyelitis is defined as an infection of the bone. The pathogenesis of osteomyelitis has been delineated clinically and several types of can be distinguished and classified according to the source of the infecting microorganism (i.e., hematogenous or contiguous focus) and the vascular capability of the infected individual (i.e., with or without generalized vascular insufficiency) (Lew and Waldvogel 2004). © 2011 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC.
