Abstract

The dilemma for all Australians is that the American imperial project is unachievable. The American neoliberal project for a global free-market is part of a US power play to dominate the world. Neither can be achieved because of the overwhelming human cost inflicted on other countries and to US society. Neoliberal globalization suggests that the territorially based nation-state system as presently constituted is unsustainable and will lead to more military intervention and wars. Resistance and rebellion against the West are likely to be exacerbated by resource scarcity and climate change as countries compete for resources and respond to the damaging impact of global warming on their economy and society.
