Pilonidal disease is an acquired benign condition of the skin and subcutaneous tissue of the sacrococcygeal region [1-2-,3]. The term pilonidal is derived from the Latin word pilus meaning hair and nidus meaning nest, describing the disease of the hair follicle in the ʼnest’ formed in the natal cleft [4-,5-,6].
