Abstract

The article discusses the history of the Stanislavski System of method acting, which was developed by theater director Constantin Stanislavski in the early 20th century. Topics include the appearance of the acting method in the U.S. between the 1940s-1950s through the theater company Group Theatre in New York City, acting teacher Lee Strasberg's acting method, and the acting styles of actors Marlon Brando, Montgomery Clift, and James Dean.
