Abstract

There is now general agreement, based on data from randomised trials comparing different surgical techniques and larger amounts of epidemiological data, that chronic pain influencing daily activities may occur in 5-10% of patients [1-5]. Because little scientific data exist on evidence-based treatment of persistent postherniotomy pain, this undesirable outcome probably represents the most important one for improvement in groin hernia repair. © 2010 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
