Abstract

Anxiety can present on both acute and chronic basis. It can be debilitating for patients as well as cloud the diagnostic process for physicians, because it can manifest with a wide variety of symptoms. This condition may mimic illnesses affecting many different organ systems. Anxiety can even cause vital sign abnormalities, such as tachycardia and tachypnea. Physicians should be careful to rule out medical etiologies of symptoms before diagnosing anxiety disorders. Anxiety disorders can be treated with both counseling and pharmacological options.
