Abstract

This chapter explores the various urinary problems faced by older patients undergoing colorectal surgery. Older adults are predisposed to urinary symptoms and incontinence. The process of undergoing surgery and the perioperative period provide many further opportunities for bladder dysfunction to occur. The causes of bladder dysfunction can arise from surgical, urological, or systemic source. With appropriate approach and proper evaluation, the multiple causes of urinary symptoms can be identified and treated. Patients can be managed back to independence and regain full control of their bladder function
