Abstract

The main objective of this chapter is to explore the challenges and interventions of the alternative care of children in Bangladesh. First, it provides an understanding about alternative care of children, and then shares some ideas about the existing alterative care setting in Bangladesh. Secondly, this paper reviews the existing child welfare laws and international conventions and justifies the position of alterative care. This paper presents major challenges/gaps of alterative care of children within the existing status, and then goes halves some thoughts about the possible policy interventions in general and social work perspective in particular. Finally, the paper justifies why SOS Children’s Village can be considered as an ideal organization for alternative care in Bangladesh.
