Abstract

develop a theoretical perspective on the adult developmental midlife transition in men that focuses on the problems and tasks of midlife as they interact with masculine gender roles / review various theories of adult development that have something to contribute to our understanding of the period of middle adulthood / review some of the major life events issues that have a high probability of being associated with this period focus on male gender-role development and describe our conceptualization of masculine gender-role stress that we believe, in part, determines the difficulties that men will face as they age and the ways in which they will cope with these problems / focus on how the issues of work and family relationships may be affected by masculine gender-role commitment during the midlife transition (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
