Abstract

In this study, ANNs are introduced to act as a bridge between detailed computer codes and compact simulators with an aim to improve the capabilities of compact expert system. The ANNs compensate for the inaccuracies of a compact expert system occurring from simplified governing equations and a reduced number of physical control volumes, and predict the critical parameter usually calculated from the sophisticated computer code. To verify the applicability of the proposed methodology, computer simulations are undertaken for loss of flow accidents (LOFA). © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2006.
