Abstract
For those working with competitive athletes, disclosures of alcohol, cannabis, or other substance use can be addressed during clinical encounters. This chapter reviews challenges and opportunities, screening options, the potential value of brief interventions during a patient visit, ways in which substance use can impact athletic performance and recovery, and suggestions/recommendations for the provider.
