Patient 1, 9 years old, referred to the clinic because of hair loss on the scalp, eyebrows, and eyelashes, which he had been suffering from for a year, and had received different treatments, including topical steroids, triamcinolone injections to the scalp, and signoline combined with 5% minoxidil. However response to these treatments had been minimal. At the clinic, he was diagnosed with alopecia areata and was advised to stop all previous treatments (Fig. 18.1a–d).
