Abstract

In this position paper, we discuss possibilities to support emergency personnel in incidents involving chemical, biological, radioactive, nuclear, and explosive (CBRNE) materials. Based on related work we formulate ideas for augmenting human capabilities in the CBRNE domain. We envision augmentation of physical capabilities (human-machine symbiosis, augmented strength), augmentation of cognitive capabilities (assistance systems, enhanced situation awareness), and augmentation of human senses (augmented vision, hearing, and haptics, augmented taste and smell) as promising directions for future research activities.
