Abstract

The purpose of the investigation was to develop an intermediate heat exchanger alloy for atomic energy steelmaking with enough formability for tube manufacture and stress rupture strength greater than 1 kg/mm**2 at 1000 C after 10**5 hr. From 17,000 austenitic Ni-Co-Cr-Mo-W compositions, 171 were selected on the basis of theoretical considerations, and seven were examined experimentally. Of these, the Ni-(0. 05 C)-16Cr-20W-30Co-(0. 5Ti)-0. 05 Zr alloy was found to meet the specifications.
