Abstract

It is one of the key features of quantum mechanics that not all of the observables of this theory can be measured jointly; in other words, many pairs of larger families of observables are incompatible. In order to study this basic feature of quantum mechanics, this chapter will make precise minimal requirements of what constitutes a joint measurement of two or more observables.
