Abstract

The new data that have emerged from the pandemic and have shaped the global community over the last two years call for the use of technology in all areas of human activity. Teaching now is mainly conducted through digital media even for people with disabilities. Digital Storytelling (DS) is a new teaching tool that arises from Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and whose application in special education is promising. Memory of pupils with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) tends to perform better when optical stimuli are involved in learning process. Thus, a teaching intervention that involves mainly optical triggers has better results. DS provides a highly customizable environment that not only can actualize the intended teaching intervention but also can engage pupils’ with ASD interest. In addition to the benefits mentioned, a DS can be created with affordable technology that an average schoolteacher can access. This study describes a DS tool that aims at teaching hygiene rules to pupils with ASD. The utilization of this tool in the field of health education is substantial and needs to be studied further.
