The two methods for analyzing user interactions with hypermedia systems described here have been successfully employed to compare the patterns of navigation exhibited by groups of users in several studies. At this time, the methods appear promising for further research into usability studies of hypermedia systems, as well as more basic research into various theories of human-computer interaction. The latter research will also require additional methodologies in order to obtain the rich descriptions of interaction with hypermedia that is necessary to further develop theories and principles for the design of such systems.
