Bullying is a common problem in the peer interaction and may result in several difficulties throughout the development of both the victims and aggressors. Recent researches point to the high prevalence of bullying in Brazilian schools. However, studies aiming to understand this phenomenon from a multifactorial perspective are scarce. This article aims to introduce the concept of bullying, highlighting the importance of including family context variables for its comprehension. It is emphasized the need of including the children's parents as participants in empirical research on school bullying and the importance of their participation in both assessing and preventing this problem. Finally, the article discusses the inclusion of children's parents in intervention strategies against bullying aiming to reduce the risk factors in the familiar environment and its harm to the children's socioemotional development.
