Abstract

We present a video sequence identification approach that can reliably and quickly detect equal or similar recurrences of a given video sequence in long video streams, e.g. such as TV broadcasts. The method relies on motion-based video signatures and has low run-time requirements. For TV broadcasts it enables to easily track recurring broadcasts of a specific video sequence and to locate their position, even across different TV broadcasting channels. In an evaluation with 48 hours of video content recorded from local TV broadcasts we show that our method is highly reliable and accurate and works in a fraction of real-time. © 2011 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
