Abstract

Surgical education research programmes are necessary to ensure the provision of up-to-date surgical training and evaluation to maximise patient safety and care. This chapter aims to provide an overview of the components involved in setting up and running a surgical educational research programme within an academic surgical department. It describes the basic steps in setting up surgical research projects and addresses the factors influencing a productive surgical educational research programme. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2010.
