Abstract

To comply with the enormous increase in information needs in forestry, the present generation of foresters is confronted with the ubiquitous occurrence of a multitude of highly technical equipment to be used. Especially in the vast forest areas that can be found in the tropics, forest management has to intensively make use of observations and measurements of remote objects. The basics of the utilization of remote sensing techniques and earth observation data is in the focus of this chapter.
