The authors investigate one of the aspects of 802.11 standard, namely collided packet retransmission. The standard mechanism of treating collisions is presented and a Markovian queuing model of a wireless device and its behaviour during channel occupation by other devices is described. Some examples of numerical results are presented and compared with simulation results. Further possibilities of model development are also mentioned. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.
