Abstract

In this chapter, the authors examine the situation with regards to technical and vocational education and training (TVET) teacher training in the Russian Federation. The authors examine the state and public requirements for the procedures, contents and quality of TVET teacher training. The level of training held by teachers varies according to which sector they are working in. Changes in demand and need in both national and international organisations have led to changes in teacher training, but challenges still exist. A shortage of qualified TVET teachers in the Russian Federation exists. This situation is further exacerbated by the low community status held by TVET teachers and the reluctance of young people to train in areas that are regarded as low-paid and low-status. The authors indicate general key competencies needed by TVET teachers.
