John Dewey, one of the main figures of American pragmatism, is also one amongst the rare classic authors to have defended the idea of a centrality of work. This paper tries to put forward the claims and arguments that led him to attribute to work an epistemological, a psychological as well as a social and political centrality. The aims of this paper are twofold: on the one hand, it is to specify the meaning of the idea of a centrality of work and of how it could be advocated for; on the other hand, it is to take part in the modifying of the view of Deweyian pragmatism that Francophone social sciences tend to produce. © Martin Média.
