Abstract

The purpose of this research was to evaluate as well as to assess the soil ability in adsorbing chromium. In this research we tested the effect of pH, weight and optimum contact time of soil in absorbing Cr metal. Soil samples were obtained from the Danau Dendam area of Bengkulu City from 4 different points using a soil drill to a depth of 20 cm. Then the pattern of adsorption is known by the parameters of Freundlich and Langmuir. Chromium concentration measured by spectrophotometer uv-vis. The optimum conditions for chromium adsorption were occurred at pH 3; soil weight 3 gram; and contact time 5 hours.. The results showed that the soil sample used had an average moisture content of 19.13%; soil pH 4; and the texture of the soil used from the four different points is clay textured and dusty loam. From the FTIR spectrum obtained, it is known that the functional clusters located on the ground surface are the functional clusters OH, C = O, CO, aromatic CH, and CX (X = halide) which can each be seen at the wave number 3433.29 cm-1 , 1633.71 cm-1 , 1382.96 cm-1 , 692.44 cm-1 , and 468.70 cm-1. To visualize adsorption pattern, adsorption isotherm was studied. From data analyzed, the data experiment fitted Freundlich isotherm with maximum adsorption capacity 2163.2 mg/g and it felt into class E (very high).
