Abstract

BED is also prevalent among obese patients presenting for other forms of treatment. On average, approximately 20% of bariatric surgery patients present with BED, though the exact figure varies depending on the assess- ment measure used (5-7) and is as high as 48% in some studies (8,9). Even among obese individuals who seek self-help treatment, 41% report binge eating at least once in the past month, and 17% report binge eating eight or more times in the past month (10).
