The aim of this study was to optimize a system for inventory management in a distribution center to help increasing business productivity. This is of interest because one aspect for the success of a company is related to the proper operation of the distribution centers. An ABC classification of the most representative items of a paint distribution company was carried out, and projections were done using the Oracle software CrystalBall®. A study of the facilities and material handling equipment was performed. The annual utilization rates are 47.87% for the class A items, 38.24% for Class B items and 13.89% to class C items. The current storage capacity is sufficient for the present demand. This work shows that the development of appropriate inventory policies keeps a dynamic refill in the distribution center.
