Indonesia has a variety of cultures and tribes, so it has a variety of regional languages as well. With the development of science and the mindset of our society, the use of regional languages has begun to be abandoned. At least 726 regional languages are threatened with extinction out of a total of 746 regional languages. It should be noted that the regional language itself is an identity for its users. In addition, the use of regional languages as mother tongue is considered to have a positive impact on children's language development and can foster children's love for their country, especially their own region. This study aims to find out how the use of mother tongue in early childhood and to find out what factors influence the use of local languages as mother tongue in early childhood. The methodology used in this study is a qualitative method with a case study research design and the sampling technique used is purposive sampling because the sample to be studied is selected based on certain criteria, namely families in one area who have children aged 0-8 years. The results of data processing and analysis found that as much as 85% of respondents did not use the local language as their mother tongue. As for the factor of the use of local languages began to be abandoned, including; parents with different ethnic marriages, families or places where children live who no longer use the local language as the language of instruction because the local language is considered less needed by children today.
