Abstract

Quantum cryptography is a new method for the transmission of secure information whose security is based on the fundamental laws of nature. The basic concepts of quantum cryptography are described along with a discussion of several different methods of implementation. Quantum cryptography systems operating in free space as well as in optical fibers are described. The possibility of future developments, including improved single-photon detectors and quantum repeaters is considered.
