Abstract

Japanese get info from newspapers (79%) and TV (76%). Distrust of researchers strong, 57% of readers of science magazines believe that researchers conceal information. J concern over risks most for microbes (59%), foods (47%), and evnironmental and health effects (75%). Welcome rDNA for drugs but reject applications for food and gene therapy. GE plants most acceptable, but in food less acceptable: 73% reject transgenic fish.
