Abstract

Japanese ferns from 20 families, representing 76 genera, 283 species, 39 varieties, and 1 form, have been subjected to screening tests by means of bioassay for the presence of phytoecdysones. A total of 170 species, 22 varieties, and 1 form have been found to show the insect moulting hormone activity. The taxonomical relationship is discussed. © 1973, The Pharmaceutical Society of Japan.
