Scopolamine

Abstract

Scopolamine is a type of alkaloid from a variety of Solanaceae plants, which is the main active ingredient of these plants. It was first isolated from the Scopolia japonica, so named as scopolamine. Due to its obvious deficiencies in solubility and usage, its structure was modified as scopolamine butylbromide, which is widely used in clinical for the treatment of gastrointestinal motility hyperthyroidism or cramps, biliary colic, renal colic, and so on. With the deeper understanding of this drug, clinical application will be given more scientific and reasonable guidance.
