Abstract

Puente de Fierro archaeological site is located in the Southwest of Buenos Aires province, Pampean Region, Argentina. It is situated near a wetland environment, with a rich biodiversity. Based on the material culture and archaeofaunas it has been interpreted as a residential campsite where diverse household activities were performed ca. 2000 years BP. In this paper the zooarchaeological information of small animal resources is presented and the relevance of small game in the hunter gatherers subsistence is discussed. Myocastor coypus (coipo), Chaetophractus villosus (hairy armadillo), Anas sp. (duck) and Fúlica sp. (coot) show clear evidences of human processing. Lastly, the regional information especially the subsistence regional models is discussed.
