Abstract

To explore what types of homeless families have been helped, & how long help may have sustained them, official data on 875 families who resided in a 60-day family shelter in St. Louis, Mo, 1983-1987, are presented. Field interviews in 1989 with 201 of those families provide subsequent data on residential history, employment, familial & demographic changes, service needs, & additional homeless episodes. Policy questions focus on current residential stability & community reintegration. 1 Table, 35 References. Adapted from the source document.
