Abstract

The purpose of the work described was to determine the effect of impurity content on grain growth in unalloyed titanium. In part 1, a report is given of transmission electron microscopy, quantitative optical microscopy, and texture studies on swaged and recrystallized titanium wire of three impurity contents. The results are summarized in a characterization of the structure of the different grades of titanium in terms of average grain size as a function of time and temperature, spatial distribution of grain sizes, grain shape, and texture.
