Abstract

The typical energy consumption of an elevator system in Kwh/m**2 increases as the number of floors served is increased. The rise in consumption is less steep for tall buildings up to 50 floors than for very tall buildings. Energy consumption can be reduced by using double-deck configurations. Even greater savings are possible by applying sky lobby concepts with shuttle groups serving an upper lobby. Depending on building height, 20 to 47 percent can be saved. In addition to energy consumption, power requirements and heat release are investigated. The data should provide valuable information for building planners and elevator consultants as they have been designed for easy application.
