Abstract

The equilibria SrMoO3(s) + l/2O2(g) ⇔ SrMoO4(s) and 2SrO(s) + Mo(s) + O2(g) ⇔ Sr2MoO4(s) were studied by measuring the partial pressure of oxygen at equilibrium using galvanic cells involving calcia-stabilized zirconia and yttriadoped thoria as solid electrolyte materials. The Gibbs free energy of reaction was calculated from the measured emfs and derived equations. To prepare Sr2MoO4, a mixture of Mo and SrO was used as an oxygen partial pressure buffer.
