Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of Psychoeducation Program for Reducing Loneliness on loneliness level of the elderly. This is an experimental study with experimental and control groups based on pretest, posttest, and follow-up model. The independent variable of the study was Psychoeducation Program for Reducing Loneliness which was applied only to experimental group between pretest and posttest. Loneliness level of the elderly was dependent variable of the study. The study was conducted with the participation of individuals aged 65 and over, residing in Hacı Rukiye Gazioğlu Nursing Home in the city center of Kayseri. The data of the study were obtained with the "Loneliness Scale for the Elderly". An 11-week Psychoeducation Program for Reducing Loneliness, prepared by researcher based on Activity Theory and cognitive Approach, was applied to the experimental group. Any training was not given to control group. Follow-up measurements were performed two months after the posttest. Mann Whitney U and Wilcoxon Signed rank tests were used for analysis of data obtained as a result of the study.
