Burn Management

Abstract

Burn injury is a threat in both the civilian and military environments. Given the growing threat of terrorism and the fact that the vast majority of terrorist acts involve the use of explosive devices, clinicians must be familiar with the injury patterns, treatment issues, and terminology surrounding explosive incidents. Most explosive events involve some form of burn injury to those exposed. An understanding of burns is necessary for all personnel involved in the planning, response, and treatment of explosive events to reduce morbidity and mortality. Specialized resources, such as burn centers and treatment modalities, are important for the care, treatment, and recovery of burn victims.
