This chapter brings together ideas that have been discussed in other chapters of the book and focuses on some of the main strategic issues in the testing, verification, validation and accreditation of simulation models. Recent developments and current trends in a number of application areas are considered and research and development opportunities in the field of model quality assessment are discussed. Some important issues relating to education are reviewed and some recommendations are made concerning the need for university-level courses in engineering and science-based subjects to include more activities involving combined experimental and simulation investigations, where issues of model testing and validation can be properly addressed and where students can gain useful practical experience.
