Abstract

(from the chapter) Discusses the interrelationships between nutrition, physical functioning, and health with advancing age. Nutrition-related health concerns of the older population are identified and population-based nutrition recommendations for older Americans are summarized. A description of nutrition programs and services available to improve the health and nutritional status of elders is presented. The authors discuss how nutrition interventions can be integrated at various levels of the health care continuum, including home- and community-based long-term care. An attempt is also made to identify gaps in nutrition services that warrant attention. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2012 APA, all rights reserved)
