Abstract

The work of Jacques Houssiaux, a leading French industrial economist, is largely unknown. In this paper, we chose to focus, among all his works, on what we believe is an original and major advance in the analysis of the organization of production forms and exchanges, the concept of quasi-integration, which qualifies the specificity of the industrial subcontracting relationship (Houssiaux, 1957). We analyze his contributions, by evaluating from a theoretical and empirical point of view their current relevance, We show that despite some limits, Houssiaux's analysis includes a number of elements found in modern studies of industrial subcontracting relationship. © 2010-2014 Cairn.info.
