Athletic medicine plays a unique role on college campuses. Delivering quality care to athletes relies on a team of professionals who provide direct medical supervision of athletes as well as those performing administrative duties such as coordinating sideline preparedness and pre-participation physicals. Core competencies needed to cover school-sponsored college athletes include knowledge in cardiac clearance, heat illness, chronic medical conditions, mental health issues, and musculoskeletal conditions.
