Abstract

Dissipation effect on the computation of the massive separation around tandem cylinders using delayed detached-eddy-simulation is investigated. One scheme is the upwind Roe with original dissipation and another is symmetric-TVD scheme with 0.12 times of original dissipation. The Roe scheme with original dissipation is too dissipative and only very large structures are simulated. The STVD scheme with small dissipation can predict the small coherent structures as detailed as possible and the computational results match the measurements well. © 2011 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
